Raku pottery has been culturally significant for many centuries, notably in Japan, where it originated. It was initially designed for use in tea ceremonies, and it is still used in this capacity today. Sen no Rikyu, a Japanese tea master, ordered the first Raku ceramics for use in the tea ceremony in the 16th century.
